Here is a bit from a news story talking about the poor Saints.
Even before Katrina hit, and the Superdome lost its glamour, the Saints' owner hinted he might consider moving the team to San Antonio, where he has business ties.
Fans and the commissioner of the National Football League were not happy.
"To make it 1,000 percent clear, the New Orleans Saints are committed to New Orleans, La., and their fans," NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue said.
The Saints will play four games in Baton Rouge, Louisiana's capital, at the Louisiana State University stadium.
One fan begged for his home team to come back.
"The city is down on its knees right now, and it really needs a professional football team to help it along," said Vincent Marcello.
How would a losing, worthless, piece of crap football team help New Orleans right now? Give me a break. I hope the Saints and Benson never come back. Spend those tax dollars somewhere that will do some good. Poor Texas. Not only did they get the poorest of the poor of New Orleans, but the also got the Saints. Later.
I am turning this blog into an advice column. But there is going to be a twist. I will have help in answer your questions and solving life’s biggest problems. There will be two of us responding to every question and situation. But I will warn you up front. Do not ask a question you do not want to know the answer to. You can put your name or leave it anonymous. Just leave the question in the comments or e-mail me. Let the games begin.

Moss Bluff Disaster Center
Here is a link to the Moss Bluff Disaster Relief Center that I volunteered at this week. On page six of the photos, you will find a picture of Clayton and myself. I just stumbled across the photo looking around the website. Vernon’s, one of the volunteers, son runs the website. Before the day was over with, the ladies inside said that they needed a mailbox because the post office wouldn’t deliver mail without one. I volunteered to run over to Home Depot and get one to install. After picking up Cheryl at the house when I went to pick up the shovel, we went and installed the new mailbox. Talk about some hard dirt to dig next to the road. And a busy road to boot. I had to put it between the sidewalk and HWY 378. Any way, we got it done and now the shelter can receive mail for the evacuees and themselves. I hope to go back after this week. I can’t go this week due to a T/A at PPG. Later.
Circur Freak
What is this world coming to when a male transsexual can’t even break the law and shower in the women’s bathroom? (Sarcastic tone) It just shows you there are some people in the world that still care about what is right and wrong. Go read this article if you want to get disgusted.
As Hurricane Katrina’s floodwaters slowly recede in New Orleans, cases of discrimination against gay and transgendered survivors are beginning to surface.
Gay organizations stepped in to help last week after a transsexual evacuee spent five days in jail for using a women’s shower at a Texas shelter and a gay man suffered vandalism of his personal belongings at a shelter in Shreveport, La.
I say if you want to be a freak of nature, get a job with the circus. But stay out of normal people’s bathrooms. You know, normal. The ones that play the hand God has dealt them. If God intended you to be a woman, he would have given you the essential parts. Freak. Later.

Just gathering the essentials
Here is a portion of a news clip I was reading.
The Wal-Mart store in uptown New Orleans, built within the last year, survived the storm but was destroyed by looters. "They took everything, all the electronics, the food, the bikes," said John Stonaker, a Wal-Mart security officer. "People left their old clothes on the floor when they took new ones. The only thing left are the country-and-western CDs. You can still get a Shania Twain album."
I guess that shows just what kind of looters they were. Later.

The Blame Game
Hey, folks, things have gotten so bad that even the press is beginning to pay attention. Presidential Press Secretary Scott McClellan said at least fourteen times during two press briefings last week that now is not the time to “play the blame game.” I say it's an excellent time, while the dead are still floating on the polluted tides and we are not yet distracted by the World's Series or the run-up to Christmas. Days after we'd all heard testimony from the engineers and planners who'd repeatedly sounded the alarm about Category Five storms and Cat. Three levees: “I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees.” You'd think letting thousands of people suffer and die over four days without food, water, medicine or airlifts would have prompted President Bush to declare, "Brownie, you're fired." In creating the first Cabinet department in 13 years, Republicans gave Homeland Security a $30-billion budget to set up just the type of bloated, top-heavy, wasteful bureaucracy they have railed against for years, while doing little more than creating long lines at airports.
Remember how President Kennedy subverted the blame game by admitting he had blundered at the Bay of Pigs. He proved you can diminish blame by taking responsibility. I know Bush isn't entirely responsible for the Katrina disaster, although he has a lot to answer for, but by taking the JFK route, he's begun to put the finger-pointing behind him and the spending of $62 billion in congressionally authorized Katrina cash ahead of him. Later.

High-tech deer hunting
I finally broke down and purchased one of those electronic deer calls I have been contemplating on getting. $52 at Academy. I originally found them on the internet but was glad I got it local. What a piece of crap. It is made by Lohman and makes four different sounds. The snort/wheeze sounded like air brakes on an 18-wheeler. Not like any deer I have ever heard. I brought that thing back the same day and got my money back. Don’t waste your money. There are more expensive ones available. Maybe they work better, but at $189, I probably won’t find out. I will just continue to use my rattling horns and blown buck and doe calls. Later.

Talking with the Priest II
We just got back from talking with the Priest for the second time about getting our marriage blessed in the Catholic Church. All we have left to do is show up at a set time and date and proceed with a small ceremony. Cheryl still seems to think that I do not need to have a bachelor party. What is a Catholic wedding without a bachelor party the night before and a beer keg at the reception? Women.
On the way home I stopped by and signed up for volunteering my time at the local hurricane relief center in Moss Bluff. The center was set up by the local churches. I only signed up for one day because I don’t know from day to day when I will be available due to work. They have two buildings. One that is air-conditioned and a warehouse adjoined to it. Usually the women folk get the a/c and the guys get the warehouse. From what I saw, you get a buggy and a box and using a list, fill the boxes to give out. There are shelves everywhere and they have everything from clothes, beans, blankets, water, you name it. I will let you know how it goes. Later.

Good Christian, Good Citizen
With all the negative talk out there (and here) about the evacuees and refugees we need to keep in mind of our duties. At the end of the day, they are still people. Rather we agree with their life style or where they came from, we should still show compassion and help them when we can. That just comes from us being good citizens, good Christians. With that said, we still owe it to our families to not put ourselves in a situation to endanger ourselves or them.
Moss Bluff has opened an evacuee staging center at the old Emmon’s Fireplace store front. I have been meaning to call and donate my time if they need it. N0w I have heard of all the stories of ungratefulness and rudeness of those you are trying to help out. I am willing to give it a shot. There are in a bad spot and a little leniency should be given. God said not to forgive your enemy seven times but seventy-seven times. I will try to keep that in mind as my temper starts to rise. I tend to take rude comments more personally than others and hold a grudge for a long time. I am not suppose to, but unfortunately I do. For having as bad a memory as I do, you would think I wouldn’t remember every little detail of the day, time, and location of when somebody pissed me off.
Besides, most of these rumors are just that, rumors. I have not personally witnessed any of this yet. My wife says that she has dealt with evacuees at her place of business. Most show their appreciation. Saying how nice the Lake Area residents have been to them. There are good and bad people every where. Just don’t judge someone by there place of residence or skin pigment. Later.

PPG Virginia goes on strike
I found out today that PPG in Virginia went on strike. And usually what happens up there happens down here. Lake Charles PPG won’t be voting until next year. From talking to local PPG employees, there a lot of things I favor on the Union side and some that I favor on PPG’s side. One for the Union is the fact that PPG wants to carve-up like a Thanksgiving turkey the retirement that the workers have and future employees will get. And I mean carve it down to the bone. The only thing the workers would be left with is the wishbone; wishing they had a retirement. Later.
Well trained
You know, Texans are the ones losing the worst in this whole ordeal. The relocation of welfare recipients from New Orleans to Lafayette or Lake Charles isn’t going to drain our system anymore than normal. But Texas has a quarter million of our welfare best over there and having to support them. That is 250,000 more getting government aid than usual. Louisiana has evacuees; Texas has refugees. I was talking with some technicians in the Baton Rouge area and one of them made the comment “don’t know if they evacuated New Orleans too late or too early.” That is the mind set around here. No one really cares for the New Orleans people. Some even say they are getting what the deserve. “God cleaning up the city.” I don’t know about all that. No one deserves what these folks are going through, white or black. But New Orleans has more than its fair amount of trash, drugs, and criminals; both citizens and government workers.
You can’t blame the refugees; they are just doing what they have been trained to do. Waiting for handouts and voting. That is the only two requirements the Democraps have trained them on. “Da government willin to give it, I’s be willin to take it.” They sure do have buses when it is election time to move their asses to the polls. I say they need to get those buses that brought them to refugee camps and bring them back. They are all lower income; that is why they are in the situation they are in, and give them the job of cleaning up and rebuilding. There is plenty to do in New Orleans. But, fortunately for Louisiana, a lot of the folks probably won’t come back. They can find the “government teat” in any city. Later.

Blanco and Brown II
Well, they finally did something about that dumbass Michael Brown by sending him home. Hopefully his job will be evaluated and they will place him in a more suitable position. Like changing the light bulb under desks perhaps. Apparently that is how he got the director job in the first place. Because it sure as hell wasn’t from his resume.
Now, moving on to another worthless government employee, Kathleen Babineaux Blanco. How incompetent can one person be? She is actually stating during interviews now that New Orleans had an evacuation system in effect and that it saved thousands of lives. Mostly Cajun made a good point about evacuation shelters. In order to have an evacuation shelter, you need to be prepared to support life by supplying food, water, and medical materials such as first-aid kits and such. Just unlocking a door and letting people run rampant inside doesn’t make it an evacuation shelter. Some of the politicians are saying that the Superdome and Convention Center were not designed to be evacuation shelters but just to place people during the storm. Fine, if that is the case then you need a way to get them out after the storm passes. What morons. They shouldn’t have been there in the first place.
Moving on to another worthless government employee. Ray Nagin. In a previous post I stood behind what Mayor Nagin said about getting help to New Orleans at the time of the interview. I still agree. At the time he said this, that is what needed to happen. Now that the immediate danger is over, Nagin should be responsible for the screw ups he did just like all the other government workers that let the tax payers and tax absorbers down. Nagin knew what kind of people would be left behind if a mandatory evacuation was put into place. He knew that there would be those without transportation available. There are school buses all over the city just sitting in the water ruining. They should have loaded them BEFORE the hurricane hit. I mean damn, I know it is easy to be a Monday morning quarter-back and say all that should have happened after the fact but some things are just common sense.
There needs to be a lot of job evaluations done after this ordeal. And those that screwed up should be held accountable for their incompetence. I can’t imagine the law-suits that will come from this. Loss of life, property, jobs; they will all blame the government for not evacuating their loved ones in time and not preparing the levee system to a safe level. Those that live off of the government would make good government workers. Always blaming someone else for their misfortune and incompetence. Later.

Cruise ships
Listening to the radio at work and they are talking about how a lot of the refugees don’t want to live on the cruise ships that the government is supplying for a place to stay. I would much prefer live in a cabin made for a few people with my own toilet. It has got to be better than the Astrodome. But I guess they were right on the radio saying that it is hard to get black folks on large ships driven by white folks. Something about what happened around two hundred years ago. Later.

Damn gook
Here is a news story from Fox News covering the trial of Chai Soua Vang. This is the fellow that killed six men in the woods over a disagreement.
“Korte said Vang fired at least 20 shots, and the group of hunters had only one gun and managed to shoot just once. The prosecutor held up Vang's black rifle that had a magazine that could hold 10 bullets.
"It fires as fast as you can pull the trigger," Korte said.
Four victims were shot in the back. One ran nearly 500 feet before he was shot, Korte said.”
I am all for self-defense, but at 500 feet with his back to him and running in the opposite direction, I don’t see were he was much of a threat to Vang’s life. He claims he got lost while chasing a wounded deer and he was found in a deer stand on private land. I hope they hang the bastard. I am on a deer lease. If I see someone that doesn’t belong, I will approach them and inquire about their presence on the private land. If they have a wounded deer that has crossed over, I would even help them look for it. But if I find someone sitting in my deer stand without permission that is a different story. Just keep in mind that everyone in the woods has a gun. Later.

Grab your ankles workers, Halliburton is in town
Here is an article I received via e-mail. Here is a link to prove it.
“Last week, George Bush gave Halliburton, master of “accounting errors” that always resulted in overcharging - never undercharging - another no-bid contract with absolutely no restrictions against profiteering from the devastation in New Orleans. As we saw recently anyone who questions their overcharging will be removed, completely ensuring no oversight.
Yet, without qualm or compassion, Bush issued an executive order suspending prevailing wage rates for workers in the devastated states of Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi, adding Florida - with no time frame for ending it – ensuring that America’s everyday workers trying to rebuild their cities and towns will not be able to earn even a living wage so desperately needed by them and their families to survive and rebuild their already devastated lives.”
I don't have a problem with Halliburton doing any of this work if it indeed was the result of a competitive bidding process. Besides, Halliburton deserves a second chance after bungling contracts, "losing" over $18.6 million of government property in Iraq, and all that wasteful spending don’t they? How about the fact that the worker in the field will be paid less per hour so that Halliburton can better their profit margin? I guess it does pay to have friends in high places. Don't it Halliburton? Later.

Going on vacation?
Here is one of two storys in the papers proving I am not getting false second hand information. There are alot more legitimate news articles out there, these are just the first two I found. Un-by-God-believable. What in the hell are these jackasses thinking? Paid vacation because the poor babies had to work and earn a paycheck? Give me a break. People still need rescuing and they go on vacation? The city THEY live in needs to be protected and cleaned-up and they go on vacation? This is the same mentality of all those people waiting for their handouts. Always wanting someone else to do their work and support them. “Oh well, the Guard is here now. I worked eleven days and I need five days paid vacation including expenses to get there and hotel. Let the strangers from all over the country correct the problems in my city. Maybe they will have some of it cleaned up by the time I get back from sipping martinis and relaxing by the pool.” Later.

Boycotting
Here is a story of a bad meal in a restaurant. Cancun’s ain’t got nothing on these guys.
A few months back, I found a roach at the bottom of a container of jalapenos at the Cancun Mexican Restaurant. Now keep in mind, this is a place I have been known to eat at twice in one day, but most of the time average twice a week. Like many other times in the past, when I get upset or angry at a franchise or place of business, I will boycott them. Meaning I will not shop, purchase, or support them in any way until I have either cooled off or ran out of other places to shop.
There is a little gas station in Hayes called O’Blancs. I would spend on average $20+ a weekend on hotlinks and chips when I would go visit Cheryl. But after they charged me the wrong price for a jar of chow-chow, it was boycott time. I didn’t shop there for months. And being as there are only two stations in Hayes, the other one got all my business. But they didn’t sell those Rabideoux’s hot links like O’Blancs did. But still, I stood my ground. I didn’t shop till the next year. Probably about four to six months. They lost eighty to one hundred dollars a month because of incompetent employees.
Some folks don’t see how standing up for principles is that big of a deal. But it is the little things that mean the most to me. And to me, it was all worth it. Later.

A fool and our money...
As I am sure you already know, FEMA (Fast Evacuation My Ass) has said they will be issuing debit cards with a balance of $2000 to each adult victim from the hurricane. Now don’t get me wrong, it will help a lot of people that need help. But I can’t even begin to imagine how hard they are going to rape this system. Stolen cards, issuing two or three times to the same person, and just plain stealing them. Look at it this way. Every adult walking in the Astrodome will have the equivalent of 2 grand in their pocket. They better grow eyes in the back of their heads fast. Another point is most folks that had to be evacuated from New Orleans are of the lower income bracket. Those living in poverty. So, if they couldn’t figure out how to manage money so that they could have escaped before the hurricane, what makes them think they can now? They should be issued coupons or vouchers for certain things like food, clothes, and personal items. I may not be an alcoholic, but I know my money will be buying Thunderbird tonight. Later.

Labor Day
Just sitting around playing on the internet while Chris ties up the TV playing PS2. The only thing more boring than watching sports is watching someone else play video games. Finally got the house washed today. Twice a year I have to wash the North sides of the house and shed, but once a year I have to wash everything. The fall is when I wash everything. We have vinyl siding and that green algae starts to grow on the walls outside. No big deal. Just a mixture of equal parts containing water and bleach knocks it right off. Followed behind with the water hose or sometimes the pressure washer and your done. I have been putting it off. Just didn’t feel like doing it. I have been sick lately. Even went to the doctor and got a shot. I have just been felling down lately. Hey, just finished putting a new counter down at the bottom. I lost my last counter when I changed my template. Later.

"Fever Pitch"
Just finished watching the movie “Fever Pitch” starring Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon. I personally am not a big fan of either one of these two, but the story line seemed good. The movie is about Ben (Fallon), who is a big Red Sox fan, meets a new girlfriend (Barrymore) who does not know anything about baseball and cannot comprehend why Ben loves the game as much as he does. This was a very surprising movie in that it delivered a good funny, interesting, and slightly romantic love story of one man’s decision between his ball game and his girlfriend. This one actually would rate a “go to the movies with a date” rating. It was that good. Later.
Kanye West speaks out
Here is a news story over what Kanye West had to say last night live on TV.
Comedian Mike Myers was paired with West for a 90-second segment that began with Myers speaking of Katrina's devastation. Then, to Myers' evident surprise, West began a rant by saying, "I hate the way they portray us in the media. If you see a black family, it says they're looting. See a white family; it says they're looking for food."
While allowing that "the Red Cross is doing everything they can," West — who delivered an emotional outburst at the American Music Awards after he was snubbed for an award — declared that government authorities are intentionally dragging their feet on aid to the Gulf Coast. Without getting specific, he added, "They've given them permission to go down and shoot us."
After he stated, "George Bush doesn't care about black people. Please call _" the camera cut away to comedian Chris Tucker.
My wife and I were watching this live last night. I don’t agree with everything thing he said. Looting is looting. Gathering food for survival because your government seems to have forgotten about you is another thing. Black or white.
“They’ve given them permission to go down and shoot us.”
What a load of crap. The people left in New Orleans, most anyway, are the ones living in poverty that didn’t have a way out in time. It is very unfortunate, but that is the simple truth. Not everyone owns a car and has the ability to flee when needed. Black or white. Someone in the office asked “why are they shooting at the people rescuing them. Don’t they want to be rescued?” The answer is no. Not all those left behind want to be rescued. The criminals are having a field day out there. “The city is ours for the taking” so to speak. Acquiring things that they have never had before. Living like the animals they are. But is the government dragging their feet on getting help out to these folks? The answer in yes. But is it for the reason Kanye spoke of? I don’t know but if I was in their situation, I could very easily see it that way. Later.

Blanco and Brown
Here is a news story about FEMA Director Michael Brown’s explanation on why it took so long to get aid to the stranded folks in New Orleans.
"Are you slow to get information?" Storm said. "You said you just learned about the convention center. There are 25,000 people there; reports of dead bodies, rapes, fights breaking out." "Yes, I learned about that, the federal government learned about that (Thursday)," Brown said.
How can he say that? We have been watching them on TV all week. The rest of the world with television and radios knew about the convention center before Thursday. Besides, with all the choppers flying around, you would think that they would notice a crowd of 20,000 people dying on the ground gathered around the convention center. What a bullshit excuse.
Asked the same question by Harry Smith, Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco said, "When your whole system, your whole civilized system goes down, this is pretty much what you get left with. We had no communications, no running water, no electricity, and no real help. We were inundated with water. We were locked down from every angle of access into the city. Ramping up has just been a monstrous task. "I'm grateful for the help we're getting. I think things are finally getting to the point where we're seeing some difference, but every minute counts. That's the heartbreaking side of it. … It has just been horrific. Everybody is doing everything they humanly could do with the capacity at hand."
I read some where that Blanco had that “deer in the headlines look.” I didn’t vote for that damn bitch the first time, and I sure as hell won’t vote to reelect her sorry ass. I just don’t get it. If we have access to all theses photos of people needing help, then we know they are there and we know where to bring the supplies. I understand a water bottle for 20,000 people is a big task. But all the water bottles you can carry in a chopper, air boat, or deuce and a half Army truck would help. And every time you bring in supplies, you bring folks back out. You can't save everyone this way, but if you save one or five human lives, is it not worth it? Later.

Another post on New Orleans
They can send thousands of troops thousands of miles over-seas in the middle of a barren desert that can not support life, and set up housing, temporary hospitals, communications centers and link up to satellites all over space but they can’t drive down the interstate and deliver a bottle of water to an infant dying of dehydration?
They can get TV news crews in and out on a regular daily basis. A guy doing an interview on TV was talking about how they had to drive their car on the sidewalk to get out of New Orleans. So, if a Volvo can get in New Orleans to the convention center and do interviews then get his ass back to New York or wherever he did this interview on TV, how the hell can they say they can’t get a military vehicle to drive in and deliver a bottle of water and some pop-tarts? They need to get their ass out of their cushy government chairs and do something about it. I don’t have the resources to do anything. I have gone and donated money to the Red Cross, but that is about all I can do. I will donate my time when they need someone. Harry Connick Jr. was on TV this morning walking down the streets of New Orleans, his hometown. He has started rounding-up folks for a benefit. That is great. It is nice to see folks use their star-power to influence people for a good cause. But the thing is how did he get in there? He didn’t have a “magic carpet ride”. He didn’t just float down. No. He took a vehicle. You know the same thing that the government has too many of. Harry doesn’t have any special powers, but you would swear that the government just can’t do anything about it. People are dying on a minute by minute basis. They just place the dead in corners. That’s ridicules. Something should have been done along time ago. Right after the storm passed and the first reports came in of people being stranded. Not two and a half days later when dubya decides to get his round-ass on a plane and fly around to see the devastation. You are not going to see shit that way.
This morning on CNN I watched an interview with the Mayor of New Orleans where he called in to beg for help. I stand behind everything he said this morning during that interview. He hit the nail on the head. He probably stepped on some toes and he even admitted he will “likely get my dog-gone butt in trouble” for the things he said. Some things need to be said whether it is politically correct or not. Because I am sure as hell that the politics are not correct today. Later.

Over a bag of ice...
Here is a news story about a homocide over a bag of ice. Thing is, he shot his sister in the head. His OWN sister for a bag of ice.
Looters
Have seen over a hundred photos and countless video clips of looters in New Orleans. I can understand taking food and perishables that would be lost any way. But Nike shoes and clothes. I have yet to see a single WHITE looter. What a bunch of worthless trash they have in New Orleans.
Now they have stopped rescue efforts in areas due to the rescue chopper getting shot at. How stupid do you have to be. They are there trying to help your sorry ass and you shoot at them? Idiots. Later.

Unbelievable
It is truly unbelievable what has happened in New Orleans and surrounding areas since Hurricane Katrina has passed through. Go to any news website and you can see the aftermath she has left behind. I couldn't imagine being one of the victims. Loosing everything you have ever worked for, and living in a shelter knowing that when you are allowed to go back home, you won't have a home to go back to. How hard it must be to pick up the pieces and try to move on. I don't believe I would want to go back and live there again. I don't see any purpose in rebuilding the city back to the way it was. They should at minimum bring it up to sea-level plus three feet. I would imagine what homes and buildings were not destroyed are going to need to be demolished. Water damage, mold, raw sewage are just the beginning of what the buildings have wrong with them. My wife and I were discussing the problems and comparing this to the 9/11 incident. I think this is worse. More people may have perished from the attacks in New York, but the ones who survived had homes to go to. And places of business to work at. These folks have nothing. An entire city has nothing. New York was just a few city blocks. This is multi-state wide.
Our company is trying to prepare for departure to New Orleans and the surround areas to start rebuilding and repairing. But we can't find anyone to deliver fuel for generators. One fellow said that he is alloted a certain amount of fuel and has non to spare. He has to take care of his fuel stations first.
Here locally, the have transformed the Civic Center in a make-shift housing facility for those who are stranded. About 1800 people last I heard. And they won't be going home anytime soon. They may be here for several months. The Astrodome has cancelled all planned activites now through December to make a place for victims I heard. I had wanted to volunteer and try to do something to help, but the main thing they need is money. So I am going to bring a check to one of several locations recieving donations. They are also taking raw food to cook for the folks. Just drop it off at the back of the Civic Center. If you are not on the list to donate your time, then they turn you away because they are pretty booked up on man power. Thats good though. They are also requesting blood donations. From money, to blood, and to chicken leg-quarters, they will take anything you have to offer. It is hard for me not to. Just sitting at home thinking about having everything taken away from me like that. I am truly grateful and fortunate to have what I do. It might not be much, but it is more than others and more than enough for me. Donate what you can people. They need your help. Later.
